Question Category : Cephalhematoma
My son is turning 3 months old and was born with a cephalhematoma that covered half of his head. The fluid has resolved, but there is still an area that has calcified roughly 1.75 inches in diameter. My pediatrician feels this will eventually resolve as well, but I'm skeptical. I am concerned and would like to know what my options might be if this lump does not resolve? Can a calcified lump of this size actually be reabsorbed?
Question Category : Cephalhematoma
My daughter is now 8 years old and had a cephalhematoma at birth. I was told it would eventually go away, but it didn't. It calcified as on Dr. told us. She is smart, healthy and shows no signs of any problems. She has never had and x-ray. Should I have that done and what does aspirating do and is it to late for that?
Question Category : Cephalhematoma
My daughter is 3 1/2 years old. She was delivered via vacuum extraction. At two weeks of age, she was readmitted to the hospital for failure to thrive (weak suck). Since then, she has not met multiple developmental milestones, and has yet to start talking. I have read about cephalohematomas extensively. Hers has calcified and has not gone away. Could this be causing any of her delays, particularly the speech?

Question Category : Cephalhematoma
My 8 day old son has cephalhematoma, although delivery was normal without any assistive devices such as vacuum or forceps. The swelling is on the side of his head. My question is, do we need to keep the swelled area from any pressure? We are placing his head on his side when he sleeps, and were wondering if we should not put his head down where the swelling is located.
Question Category : Cephalhematoma
Our son was born with Cephalhematoma. He is now 10 days old. His Cephalhematoma has gotten bigger (perhaps doubled in size) during the last ten days. Is this normal? He is eating well, sleeping well, and is otherwise a happy baby. Thank you, George

Question Category : Cephalhematoma
I have a 3 month old baby girl (she will turn 3 months in a few days). She is healthy in every other aspect. Just 10 days ago though, we noticed a lump on her head which had not been there before. She was admitted into hospital and monitored. Everything was fine. Her X rays and CT scan results came out fine as well. However that lump is still there. Seems to in fact have filled with fluid since last checked. Doctor did the illumination test and said it seemed like fluid. Wants to do an ultra sound in a week. The lump doesn't bother her and doesn't seem painful either. Is soft. I had a forceps delivery. I am very concerned about the lump. Please help me figure out what it is.Thanks!
Question Category : Cephalhematoma
Grandchild, 3 weeks old, has "knot" at top of head, a little larger than the large end of an egg. Doctor says that it is a cephalo hematoma and that the body will eventually absorb this excess blood in a couple of months. I cannot find any info on this online and am wondering if could not be something more serious. Please give me any info or point me in the right direction for info. Thanks.
Question Category : Cephalhematoma
My son has cephalhematoma's that cover half of his head from delivery. No forceps or vaccum were used in his delivery. I was told that it would go away on it's own and not to worry. I was told that as long as they stayed soft that it would be fine. I am worried because they have become hard and have not gone down at all. But now i am being told that i still should not worry that they will go away in six month's. I was wanting to know if i should do something about them.
Question Category : Cephalhematoma
My son who was born recently suffered cephahematoma due to assisted vaginal delivery with vaccum suction. The swelling and skin lacerations have gone, however he is still on Phenobarb which he is being administered to prevent mild seizures which he had due to the birth injury. My Question: How long will he be on this medication and full recovery and is he likely to develop any long term effects due to the trauma he has gone through...

Thanks in advance
A worried father.
Question Category : Cephalhematoma
My daughter has cephalhematoma and is 6 wks. old. We were told that this would eventually go away and it still has not. They are now telling us that it is calcified, so we are going to see a specialist. During the birth she had an inch left to come out and they did use the suction to get her out. We were told that she hit my cervix and that is what the hematoma was from is this true? or was it from the suction? Also would rubbing have helped it to not have calcified? We were never told to rub it, basically it was to just go away on its on. What is the normal procedure once they are calcified. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
