My 10 year old son was just diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. He is only 8 pounds overweight so I was shocked to hear his diagnoses. He is 5 feet tall, so that puts him in the 97th percentile for height. He has never liked meat and refuses to eat it. However, his cholesterol was elevated. He has IBS so raw vegetables are limited. He seems to live on macaroni and cheese (Healthy Choice I might add). Now, that is a problem because of the triglycerides. He went to the doctor because of terrible headaches. His blood pressure was 137/90. I can't get him out of bed and the doctor prescribed narcotics for the headache rather than treating the high blood pressure. Can the headache be due to the elevated blood pressure even though that reading does not seem so high? I am not sure what to do. He is in such pain! Check Out the Answer

My 9 year old daughter will suddenly become very red faced, tired and complain of chest pain or dizziness. Her blood pressure reading at the ER was 172/82 within a couple of hours she is back to normal and feeling great. This comes on during activities or while doing nothing. We cannot find a rhyme or reason for the rise in BP, any suggestions on what we should be looking at? Or what this may be a sign of? She is an active normally healthy girl. Check Out the Answer

Hello, I am writing to get info. for my 8 yr old daughter, who after suffering a severe sudden debilitating headache (never had history of this ever before) with nausea. We took her to the ER two nights ago. This came on very suddenly following a typical bedtime routine. She began crying and screaming loudly holding her head and yelling out my head I'm going to die." When she was being evaluated in triage her BP registered 143/63. I thought this was high for a child and brought it to the nurse’s attention, who dismissed it due to the great pain she was experiencing from the headache. Is this a normal BP following such an episode? Can you please advise what is a normal BP for a child who is 8 years old female about 87 lbs? Thank you very much. Check Out the Answer
