Is the chickenpox virus similar to the herpes simplex virus? My daughter, age 9, was exposed to the chickenpox virus when she was 4 months old. Her brother and sister had the chickenpox. She did not have any symptoms. At age 4 years she had a very severe herpes simplex rash on the entire right side of her face going into her hair. It did not affect her eye. It took about three months before the rash disappeared. She still has scars. I saw in your literature that the chickenpox virus was similar to the herpes zoster virus. Is there any similarity to the herpes simplex virus? Thanks for your time

Please could you help? I have a friend coming up to see me with her children. Her eldest child (2 1/2 ) has chickenpox. He has spots now. I am worried about my children. I don't mind my 2 1/2 year old getting it, but I have a four month old. I am breastfeeding and he just started to get solids yesterday. I think I had chickenpox as a child. Is it also safe for my friend to see her sister who has just had her baby less three weeks ago? I would be grateful of a reply. Thank you. I am just worried about the effects on the babies.

My 11 year old daughter has a rather large red area on her forearm that is warm to the touch and has a pustule in the center of it. The area seems to be larger than it was last night when I first noticed it and now covers much of the underside of the forearm. The area near the pustule is tender to touch. She has no other symptoms and seems to be fine otherwise except for an occasional cough which is not normal for her. She is otherwise healthy and takes no medications. At what point should this be seen by our doctor? Is there some home remedy we should try?

My second daughter, who is 28 months old now, is currently infected with German Measles "GM". She started with fever, running rose, cough and her fever did not go off until the rashes/red patches appeared. This is the third time she is down with the GM. The first time in July 2000 (she was 8 months old then) and second time in May 2001 (she was 18 months old then) . My query is : (1) What is the reason for the recurrence of the GM ? She had her MMR vaccination at 16 months old. Any prevention for the recurrence? (2) My youngest son (16 months old) is now developing the same symptoms as my 2nd daughter had: running nose, cough, fever which will come back after the fever medicine subside. Is he going to have GM? He was vaccinated with MMR at 13 months old. Please advise.

I have a friend that had Septic Arthritis as a child. The illness was not treated correctly and now he is suffering. He has a hard time working and a hard time standing up, he was born in Mexico where I guess the standard of health isn't like it is here, I am not sure, but he asked me to find out if there is anything that can be done now to stop the pain. His right ankle was infected and now he limps because there looks as though there is no bone there. He says that he is in pain daily. Is there anything that can be done to help him? Any medical procedure that can help him walk better, besides giving him a prosthetic?
