I am worried about the amount of anti-biotics my youngest son has had over the last year. He had osteomylitis and obviously had to have lots of anti-biotics. He went to docs a few weeks ago with a cough - the doc spent about 30 seconds examining him and gave him anti-biotics. My other son went to another doc in the practice with same symptoms and was not given anti-biotics. I have taken my youngest son to the first doc again with a swollen toe and after taking one look at his toe said it was infected and once again prescribed anti-biotics. I feel that both visits we were only in the room less than a minute and came out with a prescription for anti-biotics which has made me wonder if he is too quick to prescribe the medicines. My son was taking 3 lots of anti-biotics for 12 weeks earlier in the year and has had another 3 lots for other complaints since then. Is this too much or is it okay to take so many of them? I would really appreciate your advice. - Check out the answer

Hello Doctor, I am a confused parent and need some neutral view on the case discussed below: My daughter is exactly 1 year old. of late she has been eating less (especially solid food).on reporting this to her pediatrician, she suggested a test for manyoux. the story starts here -- An eminent diagnostic center in the city with NABL accrediation reported the test value 10. The Pediatric (who is also a doctor with good repute) said (after measurement) the value is 12. The ESR has been normal. She suggested medication for TB. We went in for a second (and third) opinion. The other two doctors said that mantoux being positive is normal in BCG vaccinated children and since ESR is normal and the chest xrays are normal with no strong symptoms except a slight drop in food intake.Additionally, they mentioned taking a anti tb dosage may affect the childs lever... However, her pediac feels that no chances should be taken and in children, there is a risk of it spreading to brain which may get dangerous. She also added that the anti TB drugs have no side effects. With all this ,I am a confused parent and request the experts to throw light.... Please explain. - Check out the answer
