If a child, who is on valproate therapy for his seizures develops jaundice, should one need to stop valproate immediately? (and then which antiepileptic drug to start?) What if this jaundice is infective hepatitis only? One may not be able to afford hepatitis serology diagnosis. How to proceed?

My wife (21 years old) had high fever before 5 months. It was diagnosed as Typhoid fever. During this high fever, she threw fits (that was the first seizure in her life). Took CT and MRI scan, they found inactive calcification in her brain that triggered the seizure attack. My question is, are there any chances of getting another attack in future because of the inactive calcification. I respect your valuable inputs. Thanks in advance. A loving husband.

My 7 month old grandson is in the hospital receiving meds to try to control seizures and convulsions. they worked to a point but he is still having problems. They have done spinal tap which came out ok, EEG's which show his brain is still firing off these signals, they have done MRI's and there is no swelling of the brain. He had turned blue while in day care and at the nearest emergency room had to be bagged and they gave him fluids intravenously and tylonol for a temp, them shipped him to Duluth where he is now. My question is what happens if these seizures can't be helped by meds, what comes next? Some where in the phone calls I am picking up thoughts that this little guy could die because of this. Is that a distinct possibility? I haven't had any experience in this and know very little about this type of situation. Thank you.

My nephew has breath holding spells since he was a few weeks old. My sister has got used to them and handles them quite well. He does it 3 to 4 times a day. Recently they seem to be worse and 10 days ago he had one where he went into convulsions for 5 minutes. They rushed him to the children hospital in Toronto and he has been there ever since. While in the hospital they did a blood test along with countless other tests and they found his CPK levels were at 7000 then dropped to 6000 and they proceeded to rise to 30,000. They have found nothing conclusive in any test why this level is so high. They say they have never had a case like this one and have nothing to compare it with. He is only one and a half year old. They won't let them out of the hospital until they get this figured out. They have not done a biopsy yet but that is a last resort. My sister has had so many different doctors and some are totally focusing on the breath holding spells which are the worst they have ever come across. Others are baffled with this high CPK levels. Some even think they are somehow related. Do you have any leads as to what might possibly be wrong with my nephew?
