Question Category : Toilet Training
My daughter turned four in May, this year. She has mild cerebral palsy and a developmental delay of 18 months. Potty training is difficult for us and I would appreciate your advice. I remove her nappy in the morning leaving her in knickers or nothing in the nice weather, and offering her the potty often. Quite often, she resists but when she does sit, nothing happens. Today she held her wee and stools from 10am until 6pm. When I gave in and put the nappy on her, she laughed at me and let everything go. I am frightened that this will cause a medical problem if she continues to resist. However, the school is encouraging me to train her before reception in January. PLEASE HELP!

I have a 2 1/2 Yr. old boy who has been potty trained for about 4 months now (peeing) but every day still has a bowel movement in his diaper/pull-up during his nap and at night. We have told him to tell us if he has to go and take him to the bathroom before his nap and before bed but to no avail. He has had bowel movements in the toilet but not regularly. Can you help us?
Question Category : Toilet Training
Dear Doctor, My son is 2 year and 2 months. His overall growth and development is fine. He is toilet trained, but there are two problems. The first one is that his stools are very hard and he finds it very difficult to pass sometimesthat there are traces of blood also. Due to this, he avoids sitting on his potty or in the toilet. When it gets beyond control, he passes his stools around the house. The second problem is that he still wets his bed in his sleep. During the day, he will go the toilet to relieve himself. The problem is only during the night. We give him a lot of water, fruits, oats, kellogg'schocos, and his diet is regular home cooked food. Could you please help me? Esp. his stools, because we are a little worried about it.Thank you.
Question Category : Toilet Training
My son (2-1/2) has been potty trained with no accident for 2 months. Today, he had three "accidents" when we repeatedly asked him if he needs to use the potty. Earlier today, he said his pee hurt, but he has said that it does not hurt since then. Can this be a physical condition or is it behavioral? We have not been doing anything traumatic or unusual to cause me to think that could be the cause.

Question Category : Toilet training
I help take care of my grandson who is now 6yrs. old. He was a preemie, born at 29 weeks gestation. He has been developmentally delayed and diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy. He now walks, runs, and is learning to speak in sentences. He didn't start to speak until about 4yrs. old. He is very intelligent and is quite proficient in computer operations. He spends hours at the computer. His teachers praise his progress. however, the big problem is that he is not potty trained. He tries to sit on the toilet and move his bowels but he has never succeeded.also, the same thing with urination. He seems to want to be able to urinate in the toilet but stands there and nothing happens. It is becoming a real problem now because the teachers think he can progress to the first grade. He will be seven in July. The teachers say he must be toilet trained. We have never had the doctors comment on this. We are beginning to think could this be a problem because of the cerebral palsy. Could you please suggest what we should do.Thanking you in advance.
