Question
My 3 year old daughter has been diagnosed with E.coli because of her bowels getting into her urethra. They are giving her an ultrasound and a VCUG. Is this form of E.coli contagious? My infant son has been vomiting and has had diarrhea, should I be concerned that he might have it now as well?
Answer
E.coli can be transmitted through faeco-oral route if one does not take care of proper hand washing and drinking clean and boiled water. IT does not pass through touching, sneezing or from the air. Since your son had vomiting and diarrhea, you can rule out E.coli infection. However, the commonest cause of diarrhea in infants is a viral infection.
