Question
Our 3 year old son has been complaining of a sore throat for a couple of days. He has been extremely lethargic and has no appetite; however he has no fever. His doctor ran chest and sinus x-rays with a CT scan. Everything was fine. The doctor also did blood work and again everything was fine. My son is still in extreme pain and is lethargic. What is going on?!
Answer
He seems to have a throat infection. Since there is no fever, it seems most likely a viral infection. A throat swab would be useful to isolate the germ. Sipping on lukewarm water and painkillers may be useful in the meantime. If the throat culture is also negative, consult an ENT to rule out a throat abscess etc.
