Question
My 4 yr old daughter swallowed a penny. How do I know if it went into her stomach or got stuck somewhere? Can it get stuck somewhere? She is not having any trouble breathing, speaking or drinking.
Answer
Get her X-ray neck/chest/abdomen done to see where the penny is. If it is in the stomach, it should pass out in the stools within 7 days. If it does not pass out in 7 days, one may have to repeat the X-ray and then decide what needs to be done.
If the penny is stuck in the neck or chest, your doctor will be the best guide to decide the further line of management.
