| Question : |
My son swallowed a penny 12/19. We checked his stool for about 3 days and never saw any signs of the penny (we didn't take apart the stool - he's 4, almost 5). Today he spiked a fever (also took a nap) and is complaining of stomach pains. Could this be from the penny or just a stomach virus. He's displaying the classic signs of a virus, but he never complains about a tummy ache. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Usually the coin should pass out within 7 days. If it does not in 7 days, an Xray of the abdomen should be done to detect where the coin is. Since he is having pain in the tummy, you can do an Xray earlier to see where the coin is and is it causing any problems. If required and there is no sign of any obstruction, a mild laxative may be prescribed under a doctor's guidance. |
