Question
Grandchild 9 yrs old swallowed a quarter. Not sure when this happened, could have been as far back as a year. Will this pass and why hasn't it passed by now. Has been running temp on and off for 3 weeks, has had bladder infection for two weeks. Could temperature be caused from quarter also?
Answer
If the child has swallowed a quarter a year back, it is very unlikely that it is still in the intestine. It must have passed out in the stools. However, you can take an X ray of the abdomen to see if it is present. (A quarter can be picked up on the X-ray). The urine infection and fever is unlikely due to the ingestion of the coin.
