Question
I am 25 weeks pregnant and went for an ultrasound yesterday. The doctor said that my baby boy has a cyst in one kidney. He said there is nothing to worry about since we only need one kidney to survive. But I have been really tensed. I don't have all the details since my gyno hasn't called me. How bad is this? Can this be cured within the womb?
Answer
One would have to repeat serial sonography to see whether the cyst is increasing in size or remaining the same and also for growth of the kidney. You will have to wait till birth and repeat the sonography on day3 of life of the child. That will give a much better picture as to what is the cause of the kidney disease and how to deal with it.
