Question
My twelve-year-old grand daughter, adopted as an infant from Korea, was just found to have elevated liver enzymes. Hepatitis was next ruled out, and the doctor suspects "fatty liver." She will have an ultrasound soon. What can this mean in a child? She is and always has been incredibly thin. I can only find web info about this condition in adults.
Answer
Fatty liver can be due to a variety of causes such as alcohol (not seen in children), malnutrition and enzyme defects. She needs to be investigated for the same.
