I need to know how old a child has to be before prescribed phenergren? And If a child three months old was given a half an adult dose, what could happen then ?
Answer
Average dose of phenargan in children would be 0.5-2mg/kg/day PO or I'm divided every 6-8 hrs. Undesirable effects seen are sedation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, urinary retention, and dryness of mouth. CNS depression and cholestatic jaundice may also be observed. Other side-effects include: Anorexia, gastric irritation, palpitation, hypotension, arrhythmia, extrapyramidal symptoms, muscle spasms and tic-like movements of head and face
