Question
I gave birth to my son 4 days ago and he was born blue not breathing, cord round his neck, it was a ventouse delivery. He is now in special baby unit and he is having fits that last for a second and a half may be shorter. Is this a sign of brain damage? If so what kind?
Answer
Since he was blue at the time of delivery, it suggests that the oxygen supply to the vital organs may have been affected. The fits that the child is getting suggests that the child had a hypoxic damage (due to low oxygen supply ) to the brain. The severity or the extent of the damage cannot be predicted at the moment, however one has to closely monitor his development and then only one would be able to determine the damage occurred.
