Question
I lost my pregnancy at 8th Week (missed abortion). The blood test showed Rubella IgG Antiobodies by CLIA --- POSITIVE (80.4IU/ML). Please suggest medication to have safe future pregnancy.
Answer
A single Rubella IgG positive is not enough to say that the cause of missed abortion was rubella infection. Infact a positive IgG is suggestive of past infection. You need to repeat the titre after 3-4 months to see if it is stable or rising. If it is rising, it suggests a recent infection and if the titre is stable it suggests a past infection. If it is a recent infection, you may do your urine for rubella and if negative, the chances of passing on infection in the next pregnancy is negligble. If it is a past infection, it is rare to infect the fetus. There are no medications required for this.
