Question
Hello, dear doctor, I have Epilepsy from 3 years ago. But it is very low. In my epilepsy I cant feel anything only for 30 second. And I am pregnant in 37th week. I eat Carbamazepin tablet. Is it dangerous for my baby, and for her weight and every part of her body. Please help me thank you.
Answer
Carbamazepine is a safer aniepilteptic agent to give in pregnancy as other drugs such as phenytoin can lead to several problems in the fetus. There are no documented problems of carbamazepine side effects in pregnancy though in animal studies, there have been problems of spinal cord development, none of which have been documented in humans.
