Question
Our 3-year-old son has been itching his entire body for about a week. It began at the same time he got a cold which became an ear infection. No rash, swelling or broken skin at any time. Benadryl and Zyrtec do not relieve the itching.
Answer
One needs to rule out whether it is an infective itch or an allergic itch. Since there is no rash, it seems less likely to be an allergic and also Benadryl and Zyrtec seem to have no effect. Applying calamine lotion would be useful. Consult a skin specialist to rule out conditions such as scabies etc.
