Question
My grandson is 3 1/2 yrs old and is deficient in speech. We had him evaluated by his school and a clinical doctor. Both see him as being learning disabled to a degree, but have not ruled out hearing as a possible problem. After visiting with the doctor we went to a lab and had blood taken from the child. One of the test attempted to see if "fledge x" existed. What is that and what is it's effect?
Answer
Does your grandson have only speech delay or has he had other milestones also delayed? For speech delay, the commonest problem is hearing impairment but also other causes such as mental retardation, syndromes etc. Read the article on "DELAYED SPEECH" for further information.

Also, did you mean "FRAGILE X' when you mentioned about the blood test? Fragile X is a syndrome seen in boys that leads to mental sub normality, large ears and is a genetic problem.
