I have a 5 month old girl. She got UTI about a month ago. Her doctor referred her to have Ultrasound and VCUG. As the result 2 kidney stones have been seen in ultrasound and we were told she has horseshoe kidney without Reflux problem. Now we are waiting for the result (blood test, urine test & DTPA scan). I am worried about her why she has got kidney stones? What was the cause? What is the treatment?? Please give me as much information as you can. I wish I could get your response as soon as possible.
Answer
Commonest causes of stones in children are birth defects in the kidneys. Though kidney stones in horse shoe kidneys are rare, there have been cases where stones have developed in horse shoe kidneys.
