Question
What could be the cause of a calcification on the temporal lobe in a 11 yr old. She has a history of seizures and is autistic. She had an MRI today because she had a seizure and they saw a mm calcification. Could I please have your input? Thank You, a concerned aunt.
Answer
A single calcification in the brain of a 11 year old with seizure and otherwise asymptomatic could be suggestive of infection such as neurocysticercosis, tuberculosis or toxoplasmosis. Brain tumor is less likely to lead to calcifications.
