Question
My son is turning 3 months old and was born with a cephalhematoma that covered half of his head. The fluid has resolved, but there is still an area that has calcified roughly 1.75 inches in diameter. My pediatrician feels this will eventually resolve as well, but I'm skeptical. I am concerned and would like to know what my options might be if this lump does not resolve? Can a calcified lump of this size actually be reabsorbed?
Answer
A calcified lesion usually does not resolve. If it remains the same or causes a cosmetic problem, it can be surgically evacuated.
