Question
My next door neighbor installed an outdoor wood burning furnace last year. Our yard is constantly filled with smoke when he is using it. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. My one year old has been having coughing fits every night for about the last 3 weeks. Could he possibly be allergic to this smoke? My 4 year old does not seem bothered by this but if there are risks I would like to know about them.
Answer
Cough could be due to a variety of causes including allergy to dust and smoke. One should also rule out tonsillitis, sinusitis which in children would present as cough. Have him examined by his pediatrician to determine the cause.
