Question
My gums in some parts of my mouth seem like they are receding. My tooth seems to get sensitive to air and food sometimes. It is a shocking pain, but it doesn't happen all of the time. When I feel it from the gum and go down I can feel a little ridge in the tooth. I am very nervous about this. Is it gingivitis gone bad or what?
Answer
It is suggestive of periodontitis - severe gum disease. Since you get sensitivity to food and air, it suggests that exposure to bone has taken place. In such a case, early treatment in form of gum surgery may be required to prevent early loss of teeth. This is a severe case of gingivitis.
