Question
I have a 9 month old baby boy, Dr.'s have measured head at check ups, this time measured 3 times did not get the same measurement, head this time measured 51-53, wanting to send for ultrasound. What does this mean? My family has big heads? Is it hereditary? He has hit every milestone and has been standing and pulling up early. Help!
Answer
Large head could be due to a variety of causes. It could be due to increase in the brain size as in a storage disorder, it could be due to excessive water accumulation in the brain cavity (hydrocephalus). An MRI of the brain would be useful to find the cause.
