Question
My daughter is 5years old. She is 93cms and weighs 12.5 kg. her bone age is 3.5-4.8 yrs. Her tests for typhoid, renal functions etc all showed normal results. She tested positive for Mantoux Test(10-12mm in 48hrs).Chest X ray shows some markings. Should we follow the treatment for TB first and then test for growth hormones-or can both lines of examination run parallely. I am very confused. Please advice
Answer
One needs to follow up the child and see her growth velocity rather than one height reading. Checking her height again after 6 months would be useful. Also there is a parameter called as MID PARENTAL HEIGHT whereby both the parents height are measured and then checked whether the child's height is that range.
She requires treatment for her tuberculosis. For her short stature, consult a pediatric endocrinologist.
