Question
My 7 1/2 years old son has a couple of lymph nodes on his neck and says that when he bends his neck to the right side, it hurts above his left ear. What can be done?
Answer
Lymphadenopathy in the neck region is quite common and can be due to ear infection, throat infection, poor dental and oral hygiene. There are other rare causes such as tuberculosis and lymphoma. However, they would have other symptoms also. A short course of antibiotics may be useful to see if they disappear and if not consult your doctor to decide if a biopsy is required.
