Question
My boy has a swelling on the left side of his neck. In addition, the lymph nodes just below his ear are swollen. The mum took him to a GP and he prescribed Zinnat suspension. The query then is what did the doctor suspect it was....he is due back in a weeks time. I did not get to know what is ailing my boy.
Answer
Neck lynphadenopathy can be due to a variety of causes of which the commonest is infection in the throat, near the neck or in the ears. The commonest cause is a viral infection and sometimes bacterial infection. A short course of antibiotics may be useful if a bacterial infection is suspected and they usually resolve in sometime. If it persists additional tests may be required.
