Question
I have a one year old baby boy, who is got a lymph node in his neck, I got an X-ray done for the chest it was absolutely all right, what it could be due to? Please Reply
Answer
Enlarged lymph node in the neck can be due to a variety of reasons of which the commonest are bacterial infections, reactive lymphadenopathy to a viral infection, tuberculosis etc. If there is a single small size node, a trial of antibiotics may be given for 7-10 days. If the lymph node subsides by then it suggests a bacterial infection. If it persists, tuberculosis and other rare conditions such as lymphoma should be ruled out ( in case of a large node) for which a needle aspiration of the node may be required. Your doctor will be the best guide for the same.
