Question
Is it permissible to give baby water in the weeks after they are born? My granddaughter was born on April 27 and my daughter's pediatrician has told her not to give the baby water. She is breastfeeding. Thanks for your answer
Answer
Usually newborns sleep well if they have had a full meal in which case they may sleep for 3-4 hours at a stretch. However, if the infant has not had a feed for 3 hours, it would be better to wake up the child and feed in the initial days to prevent low blood sugar. Once the pattern of feeding has been established, feeding on demand can be continued. Back to All Questions
