Question
My daughter is 5 and has an on-off fever reaching 102 degrees. She has been complaining of a sick stomach and when the fever gets back up high, she vomits. She has also been saying the top of her mouth hurts. This has been going on since Friday. We thought it is a virus and will probably pass, but it is hanging on longer than a typical virus...any ideas? Thanks!
Answer
Is the vomiting projectile? If yes, you need to consult a doctor immediately to rule out meningitis. If not, the other conditions that can cause fever and vomiting are gastroenteritis as you rightly suspected, and even hepatitis. If she has pain in the abdomen, abdominal organ infection should be ruled out. Consult your doctor as the fever is too high to let it go unchecked.
