SPECIALIST ANSWERS
Question :
My daughter complained of a backache for a few days. Today, she told her teacher she couldn't get up from her nap. She is three years old, and has been quite healthy. We went to the doctor and they said she had blood in her urine, and no infection yet (they are going to culture her urine to see if anything shows up). We are going to have an ultrasound later this week. What should I be looking for? What will the doctors be looking for? Any help would be great. I am comletely clueless.
Answer
Your daughter seems to have had hematuria (blood in urine). There are several causes of hematuria. Since, your daughter also complained of severe backache, kidney stones should be kept in mind. Please go through the articles on BLOOD IN URINE and RENAL STONES on www.pediatriconcall.com or at the links given below: http://www.pediatriconcall.com/forpatients/CommonChild/blood_in_urine.asp http://www.pediatriconcall.com/forpatients/CommonChild/Urinary_renal.asp
