Question
Is the chickenpox virus similar to the herpes simplex virus? My daughter, age 9, was exposed to the chickenpox virus when she was 4 months old. Her brother and sister had the chickenpox. She did not have any symptoms. At age 4 years she had a very severe herpes simplex rash on the entire right side of her face going into her hair. It did not affect her eye. It took about three months before the rash disappeared. She still has scars. I saw in your literature that the chickenpox virus was similar to the herpes zoster virus. Is there any similarity to the herpes simplex virus? Thanks for your time
Answer
There have been reports of use of bovine colostrum for passive immunization against diarrhea in children especially due to rotavirus. However there are no real fixed data to indicate its use in children. Till the above findings are confirmed in various studies, one would not be able to routinely recommend colostrum to increase immunity.
