Question
My son has urinary urgency but has no urinary tract infection. His pediatrician has tested his urine and given him laxatives due to stool present in rectum. He still has the urgency. Is there something he may be overlooking?
Answer
Has a urine culture been done to rule out the infection? If that is negative, then it would be unlikely that he has a urinary tract infection. If the urine examination is absolutely normal, other conditions such as calcium crystals also seems unlikely. Sometimes, worm infestation especially pinworms may cause urinary urgency. Deworming him would be useful.
