Question :
I have a four year old son who is in JK. I am aware that most children pick up many things while at school but it seems as though he has been sit for most of his year. He is now congested sounding, and is vomiting up a combination of clear and yellow fluids/mucus looking substance (no fever or diahrrea or cough). He had these same symptoms in the beginning of January, with the combinaton of a harsh cough, and we were told he had bronchitis and prescribed some milky, orange, antibiotic which he wound up having a reaction to. We discontinued the use of this and he wound up getting better on his own. Now that he has this again, with the exception of the cough, I don't know if I should take him back in to the Doc or leave him to get better on own? Please help
Answer
Your son's basic problem is cough. Even the vomit that you have described contains cough. (Small children do not spit out the sputum while coughing it but rather swallow it and that comes out as cough in the vomit.) You need to rule out asthma (allergic bronchitis) in your child as he seems to have had recurrent cough especially with one episode of bronchitis. Does, your child have cough predominantly in the night? If yes, asthma is more likely. Consult your doctor for the same so that proper medications can be started.
