Question
How will I be able to find out if my child is flat footed she is 2 years 3 months old? Does flat foot pose any problem for her?
Answer
Normally when a person stands the inner aspect of the foot tends to have an arch known as the medial arch. It may even be possible to pass a pencil below the arch. In case of flat foot, this arch is lost or not formed. As a result the inner aspect of the foot touches the ground and the normal arch is lost. It is not possible to pass a pencil below the foot. In a child, normally, the arch develops by 2-3 years of age. Usually the flat foot causes no problem, however, if the child complains of foot or ankle pain you may need to consult your doctor.
