Question
SIR, I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY 2& 1/2 YEAR OLD CHILD. WHENEVER I PLAY CRICKET OR SOME EXERTING SPORT OR GAME WITH HIM OR WHENEVER HE PLAYS AROUND RUNNING, HE STARTS COUGHING (DRY) JUST AFTER 5-7 MINUTES. IT SEEMS TO BE NOT AN ORDINARY COUGH CASE. KINDLY ADVISE ME. THANKS.
Answer
Your child seems to be suffering from an exercise induced cough which could be due to a variety of causes such as asthma, heart disease etc. Asthma in children usually presents as cough rather than breathlessness. A child with heart disease would also have other symptoms such as breathlessness, repeated chest infections or bluish color on the skin. You will need to get him examined by a pediatrician so that correct investigations can be done to come to the right diagnosis. If he is an asthmatic, he needs to be on some sort of inhaled therapy to control his symptoms.
