| Question : |
My daughter just turned three years old. She had bowed legs as a toddler and now has knock knees. Her upper legs tough entirely (from knee up) and appear normal. Her lower legs are about 4 inches apart when her knees are touched. Her great grandmother had knocked knees as an adult. What do you suggest ? |
Answer |
The commonest cause of knock knees in children is due to rickets i.e. Vitamin D deficiency which leads to decrease calcium deposition in the bones and causes the bone to get deformed. Other less common causes are inherent bone defects, renal causes. Consult a pediatrician to examine her and come to a correct diagnosis. You may also need to consult an orthopedic to check if she requires any intervention to correct the knock knees. |
