Question
My son's urine test reflected the presence of Calcium Oxalate. ( I am not sure about the level as it is not mentioned). Should I be concerned at this stage? I am told it is also to do with children eating a lot of toothpaste. Is this correct?
Answer
Please read the article on "Urinary tract infections" and "Renal stones" on www.pediatriconcall.com or from the links given below:

Is your son symptomatic? Is he on any calcium supplements? If yes, please stop the calcium medicine? Is there a history of kidney stones in anyone in the family? One test of calcium oxalate in the urine is not significant. However, if your child's urine shows persistent calcium oxalate crystals, then you may need to rule out renal stones or other kidney disease in him.
