Question
For the past week, my three year old daughter has a constant need to urinate. She goes to the "potty" at her request honestly every minute or two. She has been potty trained since November but still wears a pull up to bed at night and for naps. Lately, before going to sleep, she needs to change her pull up every 30 seconds or so after she says she's tinkled in it. When she urinates, it is merely a trickle because she goes so often. We did take her pacifier away recently which is the only big change for her as of late. She was only using the pacifier in her bed and in the car seat. This need to urinate affects every part of our day. I did have her urine tested and the results came back clear. Any suggestions?
Answer
Since the urine test is clear, urine infection seems unlikely. However a urine culture would be more diagnostic. Also worm infestation such as pin worm should be ruled out and appropriate deworming agents can be given. If all the tests are negative, it would be worthwhile to get a gynecologist checkup to rule out vulvovaginitis.
