Question
My son is 4yrs 5months old and he has 2 cavities. My dentist recommends filling the teeth and sealants. My child is not complaining of any pain. Should we have the teeth filled or wait for them to fall out? Is there a particular type of filling we should avoid?
Answer
A child with dental caries needs to be treated. By not applying the sealents and waiting for the teeth to fall out may be dangerous as it may lead to persistent infection and may also cause infection of the gums called as gingivitis and also abscesses. The filling would depend on the type of the tooth that is affected and your dentist would be the best guide to decide about the same.
