SPECIALIST ANSWERS
Question :
My daughter is 4 years old, but she is only of 10 kg weight and she is too weak, but she is very active in all the activities. She has 12.8 haemoglobin and I showed her to many doctors, but nobody could solve my problem. Suggest me what I should do?
Answer
What is the height of your child? What was her birth history? Was she a preterm or a full term and what was her weight at birth? Does she have any other problems such as frequent diarrhea, frequent cough and cold or even increased urine? It would be necessary to know these answers before it can be decided as to what is the cause of her low weight. Visit our site www.pediatriconcall.com for more information on child health.
Question :
Thank you for your reply regarding my daughter. She is preterm child. She borne in 7 months and was only of 1 kg weight at the birth time. She was kept in inquebator for one month. In winters she frequently gets cold and cough. But it is under control by steaming and all that. Every thing is normal in her body.
Answer
Your child's low weight seems to be due to the preterm delivery, (she was 1 kg at birth). Also because of that she seems more prone to infection. However, if she is otherwise fine, is playful and has no other problems, you need not worry. Till she is active and not losing weight, she seems to be OK. However, if she gets fever or any other infection, take her to the doctor immediately so that she can be started on treatment early which is very important for her.
