Question
My 1 year old daughter fell and hit hered lip/tooth. The front tooth was pushed up into the gum. I rushed her to the doctor but was given no guidance except to call the dentist. Today is Sunday so until then what do I do and how will this effect her teeth? I have given her orajel and motrin, was that this the right thing to do? I am really concerned/scared.
Answer
Do visit the dentist and have a radiograph taken (of the injured area) usually "intruded" baby teeth; do re-erupt, over the years, as the eruptive force is already in play. Sometimes the tooth may discolor, turn grey, or a dark yellow, this too is due to the trauma, and usually fades away. To watch for is a change in the firmness(mobility) of the tooth, or the presence of an abscess which MAY occur, several years after the injury too.
