| Question : |
I am worried about the
amount of anti-biotics my youngest son has had over the last
year. He had osteomylitis and obviously had to have lots of
anti-biotics. He went to docs a few weeks ago with a cough
- the doc spent about 30 seconds examining him and gave him
anti-biotics. My other son went to another doc in the practice
with same symptoms and was not given anti-biotics. I have
taken my youngest son to the first doc again with a swollen
toe and after taking one look at his toe said it was infected
and once again prescribed anti-biotics. I feel that both visits
we were only in the room less than a minute and came out with
a prescription for anti-biotics which has made me wonder if
he is too quick to prescribe the medicines. My son was taking
3 lots of anti-biotics for 12 weeks earlier in the year and
has had another 3 lots for other complaints since then. Is
this too much or is it okay to take so many of them? I would
really appreciate your advice.

Answer |
Your son has had too many infections in a year. Did the symptoms that you mentioned subside with antibiotics? If yes, then he probably had an infection. What you need to find out is the cause for so many infections in a year especially osteomyelitis that was severe. He could be having an underlying immunodeficieny where his own body resistance would be not able to fight the infection. You need to consult a pediatric immunologist for the same. |
