Question
My 2 year old child was recently hospitalized for vomiting and dehydration. After being released, he has been vomiting once every 24 hrs between the hours of 1 & 3 a.m. We have been in contact with his pediatrician every two to three days about this. His appetite has declined but his energy and mood are normal. They prescribed Zantac once daily and this has been happening for a week now. What could this problem be and what should we do about it?
Answer
Since he had vomiting and dehydration, the commonest cause seems to be gastroenteritis. However, since the vomiting has persisted for more than 1 week, further investigation would be required. Conditions such as hepatitis, meningitis should also be ruled out. Consult your pediatrician for the same.
