Question
Is breastfeeding safe when the mother has a cold sore outbreak? Can the virus transfer to the baby this way?
Answer
You should not feed the child from the breast that has the cold sore. Otherwise the child can be continued to breast fed from the other breast. Herpes is not spread through breast milk. Also make sure that your baby does not come in contact with the blister. Thoroughly wash your hands after using the toilet or touching a sore.
