| Question : |
I am 30yrsold,having a boy child 3yrs of age.My problem is that i am unable to decide whether to go for a second child or not.Current trend is for single child.Few nonworking mothers do opt for 2nd issue. will absence of sibling/second issue affect my childs mental development? is financial status also another criteria in this?We are from upper middle class.Currently i am not working,& we are staying abroad.I have to make a decision about second issue right now, since later age gap between the children will increase.I am running out of time.So kindly please advise ,so that i can come to a firm decision. Hope i recieve a reply on this matters as early as possible Thanks |

Just as there are two sides of the coin, there are pros and cons to every situation. You need to weigh the pros and cons and decide for yourself, what is best for you. A single child may be self centered but can also get higher achievement levels because of the undivided attention, support and involvement he/she gets from the parents in all their activities. There may be tendecny to overindulge your child as this gives him the mentality that "I always get what I want", which can cause serious problems as he grows up. Similarly, siblings can have company for each other, share their secrets and be the best of pals. However, unhealthy relationshipships can lead to sibling rivallry and temper tantrums and jealousy. Thus it is a very gray area to tread on and you can best decide from your experience as a child what you would prefer.
