can patient with middle ear and eardrum problem travel by aeroplane?

Since the airplanes now-a-days are air pressurized there should not be any problem. However, while landing and takeoff there may be some popping sensation in the ear due to change in the middle ear pressure that would equalize on yawning or sucking a sweet
