Question
My niece is suffering from nephrotic syndrome for more than 1 year with relapses every time the steroids are tapered off. Methyl prednisolone was given form 18-22.2.03. On 23.2.02 cyclosphosphamide (endoxan) IV aws given. Doctors say she is not responding to the drugs. Serum creatinine is now 2.0 and oedema has increased. What are the treatment options available now?
Answer
What your niece needs is a kidney biopsy. The further line action be it IV cyclophosphamide, IV methyl prednisolone or cyclosporin would depend on the biopsy report.
