Question
I had a fit and was taken to hospital for tests. I had a blood test. What would they check in my blood?
Answer
The common metabolic causes of fits would be hypocalcemia (low blood calcium), hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), or even low magnesium. The other causes of fits would be electrolyte disturbances, drug ingestion. The most likely blood tests that would be done are those of electrolytes, blood sugar, blood calcium and magnesium and maybe a toxic screen if there is any history of drug abuse.
